I remember Jim answered this for me a long time ago, but I can't find it and need the clarification again.
Here's the deal... look in my sig for mods, well I just took out the VAFC and J&S ultrasafeguard, however my car was running extremely rich with the cartech and JR Map Controller. The cartech rise rate was set all the way out. In an effort to increase efficiency and fuel economy, I installed that little plastic restrictor into the vacuum hose going to the cartech and moved the cartech rise rate screw in about half way... now I'm not seeing huge plumes of black smoke coming out of my tailpipe in my rearview mirror when I mash the throttle, which is a good thing.
The question is, how do I know what rise rate it is set at??? I'm not getting any detonation, which is good, but it's also pretty cold here right now and think I might have to adjust the rise rate a bit for when it's actually warmer to prevent detonation.

not inside the car no, don't really need one. I have one on the fuel filter but that doesn't really help much when I'm driving.

a fuel pressure gauge would tell you what your rise rate is... almost 95% people ont he board have one... I am curious why you think you dont need one

because i'm sleeper, I'm gaugeless, completely. Everything looks stock, even my tailpipe, until you open the hood.

There is NO way to adjust a Cartech to a specific rise-rate without an IN-CAR fuel pressure gauge AND boost gauge. Once you have these, you can simply use this simple formula:
(Peak fuel pressure / static fuel pressure) / peak boost pressure = rise rate.
Now, remember that the stock JR kit rises at a rate of 5:1... so if you had say 40% larger injectors compared to stock ones, you would ramp up the fuel with a value of 40% LESS than the original rate... which means about 3:1.

Welp I guess I'm sol then, heh. stock injectors, and I'm guessing the rise rate right now on my car with the restrictor is ~3:1. It's still running rich on the top end. I don't need the 5:1 since I'm not at sea level.

i have the gauge cluster for my ride to keep my sleeper look. Dude, you can only take your sleeper thing so far... These gauges are 100% needed if you ever expect to troubleshoot anything.

had boost and a/f around both in the gauge cluster, took both out, no need for troubleshooting when your car works fine if only a bit rich about 5500 RPM. I take sleeper to the extreme.
